Aquidneck Custom Composites approached Derecktor Design with a request to fabricate a high-end placard for Resolute, a custom-built, twin 300HP outboard express cruiser designed by Matthew Smith NA. The customer provided an initial design concept and wanted a durable and aesthetically striking engraved tag to be mounted on the vessel.
We began by refining the customer’s design, incorporating a cross-hatch engraving pattern within the text to boost legibility and visual contrast on the titanium surface. The placard shape was first cut from a titanium sheet using our high-precision waterjet machine. It was then transferred to our Haas VF4 CNC machine for final surface machining and fine engraving of the details. Every element—from the logo to the text reading “Designed by Matthew Smith NA, Barrington, RI” and “Built by AQUIDNECK CUSTOM, Bristol, RI”—was milled with extreme precision to match the client’s expectations for clarity and durability.
The finished placard was mounted on Resolute, which was completed and delivered to ACC’s client in 2023. The contrast-enhanced engraving provided high visibility under natural light, as evidenced in field photos, and stood up perfectly to the marine environment. The client was thrilled with the result—an elegant, custom identifier befitting the bespoke vessel it graces.
