Tom Derecktor, the founder of Derecktor Design and Derecktor Marine Technology, started TracRac, Inc. in 1995 when he wanted to market a truck rack system that he’d made for his own light-duty pickup truck. Based in Fall River, Massachusetts, the company provided jobs for over 50 people. The design, engineering, manufacturing, and sales teams were housed in a renovated mill space not far from Derektor Design’s current location in Bristol, Rhode Island.
Tom’s decision to move into truck rack design and manufacturing was a product of his own needs. He wanted a way to accommodate his cargo to use his truck rack rather than the other way around. Tom’s initial premise was to design and build a cargo management system that could meet the constantly changing needs of today’s truck owner. The TracRac system was also suitable for vans.
Tom started TracRac in 1995 and sold the company to Thule in 2008. Today, this sliding truck rack easily moves into any position to accommodate different size loads up to 1250 lbs. Accessories include rail time downs, a toolbox mount kit, locking knobs, and a cantilever extension.
