Product Design

Product design encompasses the entire process of bringing a product from concept to market. Its key elements and stages include:

Part Design 

Part design is the process of designing individual parts of components for use within a larger system.

Modeling 

Modeling uses mathematical and/or graphical techniques to create physical or virtual representations.

There are three main types of modeling techniques:

• Geometric modeling focuses on representing the shape and geometry of objects and can involve 2D or 3D techniques. 
• Parametric modeling defines objects using parameters and constraints 
• Finite element modeling (FEM) breaks down complex objects or systems into smaller, finite elements and then analyzes them with numerical methods

CAD

CAD uses software to create, modify, analyze, and optimize.   It allows engineers to visualize and test their ideas before physical prototyping or manufacturing begins.

GD&T

Geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) defines and communicates allowable variations in form, size, orientation, and location of features on a part or component. This symbolic language consists of standardized symbols, rules, and conventions that convey detailed engineering specifications more precisely than traditional dimensioning methods.
